Because the city's culture is a draw, the instructors are for the most part top-rate. But to cut costs and retain programs in a time of downsizing, most Freshman and Sophomore-level courses are taught by grad students. You don't really get in and get your hands dirty with the most competent and experienced professors until Junior, Senior and grad-level courses. By then, coupled with substandard general academic advising and the most bureaucracy-laden admissions and financial aid processes, what keeps most students engaged at any level are the cripplingly poor job prospects and looming debts upon graduation.

I really like that its located in downtown Portland. I also appreciated that it seems to be moving forward by building new dorms, and other new class buildings.
